# Free gift and free shipping over $100, in one discount

Make a gift product free and give free shipping when the customer spends a minimum amount, with an optional percentage off everything. The customer adds the gift to their cart and OneCode makes it free.

**In short:** Add a 100% **Product Discount** on the gift product with a **Quantity Limit** of `1` and **Cart Subtotal** at least your minimum plus the gift's price, and a **Shipping Discount** with **Free Shipping** and **Cart Subtotal** at least your minimum. OneCode: Stackable Discounts doesn't add the gift to the cart, so tell customers to add it.

**Why one discount:** Shopify's own Buy X Get Y discount only discounts the item the customer gets, so free shipping or money off would be separate discounts. OneCode puts them in one code or one automatic discount.

## Steps

The example gives a $20 tote bag free, plus free shipping, on orders of $100 or more.

1.  Click **Create discount**. Choose **Automatic discount** with a **Title** such as `Free tote and shipping over $100`, or a code.
    
2.  Click **Add Discount Type** and enter `100` in **Percentage**. Set **Target** to **Specific Products** and pick the tote bag.
    
3.  Click **Add quantity limit** and enter `1`.
    
4.  Under **Per-Discount Conditions**, click **Add Condition**. Set **Field** to **Cart Subtotal**, **Operator** to **Greater than or equal to** and **Value** to `120`.
    
5.  Click **Add Discount Type**, set **Discount Type** to **Shipping Discount** and keep **Free Shipping**. Add the condition **Cart Subtotal** at least `100`.
    
6.  Click **Save discount**.
    
7.  Tell customers about the gift on your product pages, cart or announcement bar, for example "Spend $100 and add a free tote to your cart".
    

## What the customer gets

-   $110 of products plus the tote ($130 cart): the tote is free, and so is shipping.
    
-   $110 of products without the tote: free shipping.
    
-   $90 of products plus the tote ($110 cart): free shipping, but the tote isn't free, because the cart is under $120.
    

## Why $120 for the gift

**Cart Subtotal** includes the gift's own price. With `100`, a customer could spend $80 and add the $20 tote to reach $100. Adding the gift's price keeps the minimum at $100 of other products. Free shipping uses `100`, so customers who don't add the gift still get it.

## Variations

-   **10% off everything as well:** add a product discount of `10`% on **All Products**. The tote still gets 100% off, because each item gets its best product discount. A second tote is full price.
    
-   **Free gift with a specific product:** instead of **Cart Subtotal**, add the Global Condition **Product In Cart** **Contains** the product they need to buy. See [Buy one product, get a discount on others](https://jxngqfpxd.us.gleap.help/en/articles/34).
    
-   **Choose one of several gifts:** pick every gift product in **Target**. The quantity limit of `1` makes only one of them free. Set **Cart Subtotal** using the most expensive gift's price.
    

## Good to know

-   If the customer adds two totes, only one is free.
    
-   The gift has to be for sale in your online store so customers can add it to their cart.
